How Much Does a Kitchen Renovation Cost in the GTA? (2026)

A straight answer on GTA kitchen renovation pricing in 2026 — the realistic ranges by tier and the four factors that move the number most.

Blackstone General Contracting · Updated June 15, 2026

A kitchen renovation in the Greater Toronto Area typically costs between $30,000 and $75,000 in 2026. A minor refresh — new cabinet doors, counters, and flooring — can start near $15,000, while a full gut renovation with an island and a load-bearing wall removed can run past $100,000. Where you land depends mostly on cabinetry, whether the layout changes, and your finish level.

GTA kitchen renovation cost by tier

  • Minor refresh ($15,000–$30,000): new cabinetry (often IKEA) or refacing, laminate or entry quartz counters, flooring, paint, and updated fixtures. Layout stays the same.
  • Mid-range ($30,000–$55,000): semi-custom or KraftMaid cabinetry, quartz counters, tile backsplash, new lighting, and quality flooring. The most common GTA kitchen.
  • High-end ($55,000–$100,000+): custom cabinetry, premium stone (including Cambria® quartz), an island addition, a load-bearing wall removal, and high-end appliances.

What drives the price up or down

Four factors move a kitchen quote more than anything else:

  • Cabinetry — usually the single largest line item. Stock vs. semi-custom vs. custom can swing the total by tens of thousands.
  • Layout changes — moving plumbing, gas, or a load-bearing wall adds trades, engineering, and permits.
  • Countertops — laminate to entry quartz to premium natural stone is a wide range per square foot.
  • Finish level — appliance grade, lighting, hardware, and tile detail quietly add up.

Do you need a permit?

A cosmetic kitchen refresh usually does not need a permit. You will need a building permit to remove a load-bearing wall and an ESA electrical permit for new circuits. A contractor should include permit handling in the quote, not treat it as your problem.

Frequently asked

For most GTA kitchens, $50,000 covers a solid mid-range renovation: semi-custom or KraftMaid cabinetry, quartz counters, a tile backsplash, new flooring, and updated lighting. It gets tight if you add an island, remove a load-bearing wall, or move to fully custom cabinetry and premium stone.
